Preceded in death by husband, Robert. Survived by 9 grandchildren & 9 great-grandchildren. She raised 4 children while working as a nurse and then as a Hennepin County Deputy while her husband Robert was Hennepin Co. Undersheriff. Her full life was lived with a most happy energetic spirit. All who came in contact with her remember her for her dry witty remarks and gentle sweetness. She passed as she lived with grace, humor, and a deep love and devotion for her family. A great lady of ninety five years has passed away. Mary Burnham was the grandmother of one of the developmentally disabled adults that lived in the group home where I worked from February 2004 until September 2006. She passed away this past weekend as the result of a stroke suffered a week earlier. What a great lady she was.
Even though she was legally blind,this feisty lady lived alone in an assisted living care center in northeast Minneapolis until about a year ago. When I worked at the group home, I ensured that her grandson got up to see her every Sunday and they attended church together. Occasionally, I and all of the other three group home residents would stay and have Sunday dinner with Mary after church.
She was a wonderful, wonderful person. I'm glad I knew her for as long as I did.

Bernard (Steve) Cannon, age 81, died peacefully at home on April 6, 2009. Son of Norman and Mary, Steve is survived by wife, Lorraine; son, Bart; daughter, Lynn; daughter-in-law, Marion Greene; granddaughters, Ellie and Mia Cannon; brothers, Don (and wife Robyn) and Harold (and wife Margarita); nieces and nephew, Sara, Denise and Peter; granddog, Duke; cousins and many friends. Steve served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from the U of M.
The family offers special thanks to Fairview Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care. At Steve's request, there will be no public service. Family and friends will be notified of a memorial gathering at a later date. Family prefers memorials to donor's choice of charity.

Robert Salitros, of Mora, formerly of Minneapolis, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at his home in rural Mora. He was 63 years old.
Robert G. “Bob” Salitros, age 63, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the early morning of May 30 after an inspirational fight with cancer. Bob’s wife Darlene and his sister-in-law Linda Peterson were with him when he peacefully left this world. Bob was surrounded and supported by the people he loved during his last year; he was very passionate about how important everyone was in his life.
Bob retired in 1997 from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department after 28 years of service as a Sheriff's Deputy and Sheriff's Detective. Bob was an entrepreneur most of his life and was always willing to work hard and make sacrifices to support his family. He was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association.
Bob’s passions include his wife’s cooking, fishing with his sons, boating, and always looking for a new car. Bob loved for things to be clean and neat, his enthusiasm for his lawn, clean windows, and a clean car were the same things that made him special to the people around him.
Bob had many special people in his life; he most cherished the ones that he could help guide with advice when they needed support. His own children have had the benefit of his counsel and will miss his guiding light. Bob left the world a better place with the influence and impact he had on the special people in his life.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents George and Louise Salitros. He leaves behind his loving wife Darlene of Mora; sons David (Kim) of Sauk Rapids, Daniel (Kim) of Isanti; brother, Gerald of Golden Valley; sisters, Betty (Fred) Wresh of Surprise AZ, Janette (Leroy) Bursey of Phoenix AZ, Sandra Einck of Naples Florida, and Linda (Steve) Peterson of International Falls MN; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service was held on Monday, June 15th at 11:00 A.M. at Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora. Visitation was 2 hours prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a charity of choice.
I met Bob during my employment with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department where we were both deputy sheriffs. He was a really nice, quiet sort of guy who took pride in everything that he did.
My personal sympathies to his entire family over their great loss of a truly wonderful person.

Paul Adrian Boesen, 63, of Plymouth, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, gave up his courageous battle with cancer on June 8, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy, of 41 years, son Chad (Emily), and daughters Rebecca (Tom) Anderson, and Heidi; granddaughter, Laura; brothers Bill (Deanne), Peter (Marcia), David (Pam), Bob (Simone), Mark (Mona) and sister Cecilia. Paul was a Robbinsdale Policeman, a retired Hennepin County Deputy Sheriff and a Court Security Officer for the United States Marshall Service. Many thanks to the doctors and staff at the Hubert H. Humphrey Cancer Center and North Hospice, especially Mary and Angie. Thanks to the many friends and family who supported us during Paul’s journey through cancer. Celebration of Paul’s life was held Monday, June 15, 2009 at 3:00 PM with visitation 2 hours prior to service at Valley of Peace Lutheran Church 4735 Bassett Creek Drive Golden Valley 55422. Paul Boesen was one of the greatest people that I have ever known. I first met him when he became a Police Dispatcher for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office. He had the quickest wit of anyone that you will ever meet in your lifetime. When Paul was working, socializing or doing anything else, there was always a sense of humor, tempered with some reality, in the air. I can't begin to count the number of times that I was brought to tears of laughter from some of the 'off the wall' things that would just pop into his mind and out of his mouth.
The fact that I never heard, from anyone, anything negative about Paul, speaks volumes to us all just what a truly great person he was and how we all should live our lives to the fullest. The uncountable number of totally fun and enjoyable shifts that we, and others, all enjoyed together while dispatchers for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office are memories that I'll never forget. Quite often I hear something or see something that vividly reminds me of many, many of the great, and fun, times that we had together.
My great friend, Paul, you taught us all how to live enjoyable, bountiful and fun-filled lives. Equally important is how much you taught us to accept whatever challenges life gives us. Most important, though, is the honor of having your love, friendship and support and being able to remember you as a true and sincere friend.
May the Lord keep you in the grace of your arms and protect your from any more pain and suffering.

Michael P. Calistro, former Hennepin County Deputy Sheriff and Minneapolis Police Officer, age 61, of Coon Rapids, on June 14, 2009. In addition to his wife, Carol, and daughter Gina, Calistro is survived by another daughter, Angie Haglund of Coon Rapids; a stepsister, Kathleen Fullwider of Fridley, and two grandchildren.
Mike graduated from Edison High School and served as a Navy corpsman during the Vietnam War, his daughter, Gina. said. After the war, he worked briefly for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office before joining the Minneapolis Police Department, where he gained respect for going beyond the call of duty, those who knew him said.
"He had a good sense for police work, what to look for and what to do," said Calistro's longtime patrol partner, Cliff Johnson. "He was a very colorful and exciting person who loved people." "Wherever he went, he jumped in with both feet," said retired Minneapolis police officer Tim Prill. "Whatever he did, he left a legacy of good."
Known for his sense of humor, Calistro made the emergency response unit's annual training trips to Fort Ripley, Minn., an "experience to remember," said Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan. "Mike brought us back to reality base."
He was a founding member of the emergency response unit, an officer in the 4th and 5th precincts and a member of the narcotics unit, and most recently worked in the crime lab.
He was especially proud of his work as a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) officer in Minneapolis schools, said his daughter.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, St. Anthony and Stinson Blvds. , St. Anthony. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday with a celebration of life and reflection time at 7 p.m. Sunday at Billman-Hunt Funeral Home, 2701 Central Av. NE., Minneapolis and one hour before services at the church. Interment Sunset Memorial Park.

Leonard H. Barthol, age 84, of Osakis, formerly of St. Paul, passed away peacefully November 11, 2008. Worked as a fire fighter at the MSP Airport for many years. Way back in the mid 1960's is when I first met Lenny. I was on active duty for the Air Force Reserve as a Fire/Crash/Rescue Specialist and was assigned to serve out my remaining active duty time at the MAC Fire Station on the east side of the airfield as MSP airport. As I recall, Lenny was a Fire Motor Operator (fire truck driver) for the MAC Fire Department. For whatever reason, I can clearly picture in my mind exactly how Lenny looked, I can clearly hear his voice and remember his personable, calm demeanor. He was a joy to work with and I'm glad that I had the opportunity to meet, know and work with him.

I met Earl when I was working at radio station KCHK in New Prague (Minnesota) back in 2002 to 2004. He would call me periodically while I was 'doing my radio show' and he was an interesting person to talk with. During one of our many conversations, we discovered that we lived only a few miles apart on 134th Street just outside of Cologne.
I considered it a true honor when I met Earl in person for the first time when he attended one of my three 'DELTA DICK' LISTENER APPRECIATION GET TOGETHERS' at Shep's Place in Cologne. My sympathy to Earl's family.

Haugen, Marlon Oscar "MOH" age 80, of Shorewood, died November 5, 2008. Preceded in death by his son, Jon Haugen; parents, Julia and Elmer Haugen and sister, Corrine Dimmel. Survived by his wife, Janice C. Henke Haugen; children, Kristin, Mark and Maren Haugen, Toni Plante and husband Al, Tom Henke and wife Nancy, Tracy Stefan and husband Mike; daughter- in-law, Darla Haugen; 16 grand- children. Marlon practiced law in Wayzata for 46 years. A service celebrating MOH's life was held at 11 AM Monday, November 10, 2008 at The Episcopal Church of St. Edward, 865 N. Ferndale Rd., Wayzata. Marlon Haugen was an attorney from Wayzata that my father used many times for a variety of legal affairs. I got to know Marlon when he and his fellow lawyers, Allan Quello and Gary Phleger, were the 'contract attorneys' for the City of Maple Plain when I began my career there in law enforcement. In the early 1980's when I had my Security Company offices in the Twelve Oaks Business Center in Minnetonka, Marlon also had his law office in the same complex and we would 'run into' each other frequently. I always found him to be a pleasant and interesting person.

Michael Stephen Postle, age 66, of Plymouth, passed away on August 6, 2009. Retired from the Hennepin Co. Sheriff's Office. Graduate of the FBI National Academy. He enjoyed cooking for people, gardening and cherished his grandchildren and the time he spent with them. Preceded in death by parents, Roman and Patricia. Survived by wife of 41 years, Patricia; sons, Roman (Cory) and Michael David; grandchildren, Zachary and Claire; siblings, Roma (Keith), Jim (Diane) and Dale (Joanne); dog, Rocky; countless friends and colleagues. When I was in the early years of my Law Enforcement career with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, I remember Mike as the Commander of the Metro Area Narcotics Squad (MANS); what I recall as being the first organized, multi-jurisdictional Law Enforcement narcotics organization in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area.
While serving as a Lieutenant under then Hennepin County Sheriff Don Omodt, Mike also commanded the Hennepin County Sheriff's Communications Division for a short time. Lieutenant Postle would later in his career, be appointed an Inspector with the Sheriff's Department.
Whether he was a Commander, a Lieutenant or Inspector, Mike was the epitome of professional Law Enforcement and served his fellow deputies, Hennepin County Sheriff Omodt and all of Law Enforcement, in a very professional manner.
It was a sincere pleasure to have known, and worked with Mike.

Don M. David, Age 75, of Longville, formerly of Minnetonka Beach, passed away peacefully November 8, 2009. Survived by wife of 49 years, Bonnie; children, Nancy (Ted) of Austin, TX; Bill (Alvaro) of Paris, France; Jim (Sandy) of Rogers; Steve (Heidi) of Prior Lake; grandchildren, Maddie, Katie, Michael, Hogan & Carson; sister, Jean Howell of Plymouth; and family pets, Lucas and Kitty. Don proudly served in the US Coast Guard, was a member of Rotary (past president), an avid outdoorsman and hunter, and actively participated in the communities where he lived. Special thanks to the Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Cloud, which provided Don and his family comfort and care. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 2PM at the Longville Community Church, Longville, MN (218-363-2750). Memorials may be made to either the Longville Snowmobile Club or Quiet Oaks Hospice House.
I clearly remember Don as a volunteer with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Emergency Squad. He and one of his many Emergency Squad 'partners' would stop by the Sheriff's Radio Station during their tours of duty for a quick visit. He was truly a professional and represented the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department admirably. Additionally, Don was a very successful insurance salesman and one of the very few people that I ever knew who lived in Minnetonka Beach.
My sympathies go out to his family and many friends.

Marian Katherine Schatz, 81, of Montgomery, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague. A lifetime resident of the Montgomery area, Marian was born in Shieldsville on July 19, 1928, a daughter of Joseph and Dena (Hartman) Stasney. She attended country school, graduated from Montgomery High School and then attended Rassmussen Business School taking a course in bookkeeping. Marian later married Joseph Schatz Sr. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery on June 30, 1948. She enjoyed crocheting, her grandchildren and playing cards.
She is survived by eight children Joseph Jr. (Carol) Schatz, Le Center, Mary Grootvedt of Carolina, Ty (Mary Lynn) Schatz, Montgomery, Steve Schatz, Montgomery, Anthony Schatz, Apple Valley, Annette Schatz, Le Sueur, Margaret (Brian) Cummiskey, Hamburg and John Schatz, Eden Prairie; son-in-law Dan Aydt; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter Deanna Aydt; and son-in-law Jim Grootvedt.
Visitation was held at the church on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30AM. Funeral services were held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery on Friday, Oct. 16, at 10:30AM. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery. Arrangements were with Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery.
I could wire a book about this great and wonderful lady ! Marian and I became friends back in the spring/summer of 2002 when I began working at KCHK-AM; a radio station just outside of New Prague. She had recently fallen off of a chair and broken her arm (or wrist). She became a very avid 'fan' of my Old Time Music Radio Program that was on each weekday from 9AM until 2PM as well as my other many radio shows that I hosted and produced. It was not uncommon for Marian to call me frequently while I was 'on the air' just to chat and let me know how she was doing.
After I left the radio station and began my Olde Tyme Music Show on the Internet (of which I regularly sent her CD's of), Marion and I still kept in contact with each other; talking several times a month. My last conversation was with her just a week before she passed away. She knew that she would be leaving this earth shortly to find her home in God's Heaven and was fully accepting of that and accepted it without reservation.
Marian had a lot of medical problems during the final years of her life but accepted, and dealt with, them in a 'superhuman' way. Never once did I ever hear her complain and her words, "I'll just do the best I can" certainly described how she lived her entire life.
She was a wonderful, dear lady whom I had the honor, and joy, of knowing for seven and one half wonderful years.

I first met Floyd while I was working at the Hennepin County Sheriff's Radio Station in Golden Valley. At that time, Floyd was assigned to the Warrant/Fugitive Division and he and his partner would stop in at 'radio' occasionally to get their police radio in their unmarked squad car fixed, drink some comm or just say "Hi".

Howard Anderson was the Mayor of the Village of Maple Plain back in 1969 when I began my career in Law Enforcement in April of that year. I always found him to be an inspiration to my new found career and am a better person because of the expert guidance and advice that he provided me with. I never once was disapointed by any decision he made as Mayor of the Village of Maple Plain andwas always impressed how he unconditionally supported every decision I made s a 'rookie' just beginning my Law Enforcement career.

Bob E. Leivermann, age 70, of Waconia, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2009. Bob is survived by his loving family; wife Judy; children and their spouses, Bruce and Judy Leivermann, Bradley Leivermann and special friend Brenda Gempler, Mike and Sara Leivermann, Steven and Sally Leivermann, Bobbi Jo and John Fischer. Bob Leivermann was truly one of the greatest and nicest persons that I have ever met !!
I first met him many years ago when I began going to 'Bob's Barber Shop in Waconia', the only barber shop ever to become 'The Official Barber Shop of the DELTA DICK OLDE TYME MUSIC INTERNET SHOW'; I mentioned Bob, his son Mike and their barber shop frequently on my Internet Show.
Bob had a great personality, always made you feel welcome and was known for his addiction to golf which, at times, seemed more important to him than cutting hair. If there's a golf course in Heaven; that's where you'll find Bob. He also often spoke about his family and grandchildren, for which he had an obvious fondness.
Rest in peace my friend, you were the best and someone who I will also honor the privilege of having know and as being 'The Official Barber of the DELTA DICK OLDE TYME MUSIC INTERNET SHOW'.

Clifford L. Cherrier, age 64 of Eden Prairie, Minnesota passed away January, 5, 2010. Survived by daughter, Annette Soderstrom; son, Paul Cherrier; grandchildren, Zachary & Samantha Soderstrom. He was a proud police reserve with Hopkins Police Department for 36 years and was a retired State of MN Correctional Officer. He will be missed greatly by all. Although his obituary doesn't state it, Cliff was also a volunteer with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Emergency Squad; that's where I first met him. He and his partners would periodically stop by 'radio' (our name for the Communications Division of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office) while on duty. I recall Cliff as a well groomed Special Deputy who tok pride in himself and everything that he did.
Althought I lost contact with Cliff many, many years ago, I vividly remember his smile and sense of humor.

I met Bill almost four years ago. He was a fellow Security Officer at the Mystic Lake Casino-Hotel who everyone like. He had a 'down to earth' outlook on life and a quick wit. We often talked about his previous experiences with NASCAR Auto Racing and his love of the sport. Bill was a super guy who liked everyone he met and everyone that met him found him to be an honest and sincere friend.
My personal sympathies are extended to his wife Terry and the rest of his family. I'm sure that they will missed him deeply. I know I, and many of my fellow Mystic Lake Security Department Officers, will.

Arvid Robert Dittbenner, at the age of 85, Arvid was peacefully released from his mortal life. He could sing, dance, draw, and tell outrageous tales using a wide range of accents. Children, small animals, and most grown-ups were drawn to him, and it was the great joy of his life to teach Science to West Junior High students in Wayzata for 34 years. His kind, and humorous, classroom demeanor will be remembered as long as former students walk the Earth. "Mr. D" always arrived at school wearing a suit, and one of his signature bow ties. He never met a Middle Schooler that he didn't like, and some gave him a run for his money! Arvid saved every toy and comic book that he had as a child. He knew the value of old things, and collected throughout his life. He and Marcia always looked for antique stores when visiting new places. He liked metal soldiers, old TV and cartoon memorabilia, and anything having to do with Disney was deemed worthy. It was speculated that he might be a step-brother to Mickey himself. Arvid traveled often with his wife, and groups of friends, to wonderful, worldwide locales, and preserved the trips through home movies and DVDs. As his health declined, Arvid enjoyed re-watching the trips. Now that he's gone, the world has lost one of its magical creatures. The sky won't seem as blue, the frogs won't sing as loud, the bears won't dance as fast, and we will miss him forever. Survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marcia; daughters Sandra (Ken) Millslagle, Doreen (Christopher) Baker; son Steven (Lynn); grandchildren Matthew, Sarah (Nick), Becky (Ty), and Nate (Stephanie); 5 great-grandchildren. 'Mr. Dittbenner' was my science class teacher when my family moved from Richfield to Plymouth. I'm not sure what grade I was in but I do know that I was in 4th grade and went to Widsten Elementary School in Wayzata after we moved to Plymouth. I think I can remember sitting in his ((interesting) science class and looking out the window to my left; I think that was at what is now known as Wayzata West Junior High School.
He was a neat guy and made learning all about science interesting. All of us in his science class especially liked his stories about chasing tornados in a Model A Ford.

With his dog at his side, Dr. Ralph Molnau could be seen driving from farm to farm around Carver County in his old pickup truck, making his veterinarian house calls. "He'd come at the drop of a hat," said farmer Steve Kelzer. "You'd just call him and he'd come out, even at his age. He just loved to get out in the country and see what's going on."
Molnau, owner of Countryside Veterinarian and Feed and a former Minnesota Veterinarian of the Year, died Jan. 16 of leukemia at his Waconia home. He was 82. Services have been held. His love of animals and of veterinary medicine drove him to continue working long past retirement age.
"That was his life," said his wife, Mary Molnau. "He loved doing everything that's necessary for animals."
Born and raised on a large dairy farm in the Chanhassen area, Molnau was active in 4-H and regularly showed cattle at the Minnesota State Fair. He was one of a group of students who lobbied the University of Minnesota to establish a veterinary medicine program. Their efforts paid off, and in 1952, Molnau became a member of the second class to graduate from the U's vet school.
At the Waconia Veterinary Clinic, Molnau treated mostly livestock animals from local farms, but was also available to pet owners. "During the day he'd be out with the cows and the sheep. In the evenings we would spay cats and dogs," Mary Molnau said. "We answered many calls in the middle of the night. There were farmers who had cows with milk fever, or a cow having trouble with a calf. It was important that you got there."
In 1986, Molnau attempted to retire, but it didn't last. "Some people would laugh at that because he never really retired," Mary Molnau said. Five years later, he opened another clinic -- the Countryside Veterinarian and Feed -- on a plot of land just west of Waconia where he raised sheep.

Rodney James "Froggy" Ceplecha, 56, of Montgomery, died on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis.
Rodney was born in New Prague on March 9, 1955, a son of Roman and Rosie (Havlicek) Ceplecha. He attended Montgomery- Lonsdale Schools and graduated in 1973. He then attended Mankato Vo-Tech for electrician training. Froggy enjoyed family and friends, loved his Czech heritage and Czech music, and played button accordion.
He is survived by his parents; siblings Rosanne (David) Novak, Minneapolis, Rita (Michael) Sullivan, Eden Prairie, Renee (Brad) Mitchell, Prior Lake, and Rick (Kori) Ceplecha, Elko; five nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services were held at Holy Redeemer Church in Montgomery on Wednesday, July 6, at 10:30 a.m. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Lonsdale. Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery.

Steven had a strong faith in the Lord and is now with his parents in heaven. Steven battled many forms of cancer for many years beginning at age 16. Norma L. Goodmundson, age 88, of Plymouth, MN, passed away on April 4, 2012 at her home of sixty years with daughter Susan by her side. Norma was preceded in death by husband, Carl and survived by children, Gary (Janis) of Chesapeake, VA, Susan MacMillan, Sonoma,CA, Daniel (Ann) of Wayzata and Dale (Sue) of Bettendorf, IA. Norma remained interested, informed and inquisitive in each of her eleven, all favorites, grandchildren and felt especially blessed with her nine great-grandchildren. Norma was born on a small farm near Indian Creek, WI, and was the youngest of Bert and Vina Peterson's six children. After graduating from Frederic High School in 1941, Norma followed her sister Verna to Chicago and worked at the Sweden House Hotel. It was in Chicago that she met Carl while he was training at the Great Lakes Naval Base. They married at the conclusion of the war in 1945. In 1952, Norma and Carl settled at 304 North Avon Road and raised their four children. In 1965 at age 42, Norma began her long career in banking at the North Shore State bank which is currently Anchor Bank. Her people and marketing skills served her well in the many varied positions she ascended to. Norma thoroughly enjoyed banking and made many wonderful friends and colleagues. She was most proud of her active involvement with Business and Professional Women (BPW), National Assn of Banking Women, Interfaith Outreach, Chamber of Commerce activities, promoting the interests of Anchor Bank, organizing senior outings, and managing the annual bank sponsored "Ice Out" contest. Norma was very honored to be selected the Wayzata Chamber's Person of the Year in 1991. Norma was a sixty year member of Messiah United Methodist Church and volunteered in many church activities. Ned Larry Butterfield, age 81 of Orono, born 3-21-1931 and passed away April 20, 2012. Survived by wife, Lorna Lee Maxwell Butterfield; children, Todd Maxwell Butterfield, Terry Butterfield Clark and Amy Butterfield Mullen; brother, Loren Butterfield; five grandchildren, Brooks Butterfield, Mackenzie Clark, Molly Wilson, Maxwell Clark and Jessie Rae Mullen and his precious great-grandchild, two year old Owen Wilson. Ned graduated from Michigan State University with a horticulture and floriculture degree. He served two years in the U.S. Navy. When he was discharged, his entire life was dedicated to planting and growing flowers and vegetables. He and his family enjoyed decorating the Nicollet Mall for 35 years. He owned Butterfield Flowers, two wreath factories, Keystone Evergreen in Cornell, WI and the Flower Farm in Delano. In his early years, he was President of the North Central Florist Association which decorated the horticulture building at the Minnesota State Fair. He was on the board of Teleflora and F.T.D. He gave many internships to floral students at Hennepin Technical College. Ned was also a member of Wayzata Rotary and did an International Rotary exchange with his son Todd and Hans, a Swedish Rotary member from Soderhamn, Sweden. Arthur (Art) W. Rohlen age 90, of Bloomington, died Sept. 18, 2008. Preceded in death by wife, Beatrice. Captain Rohlen was a Hennepin County Deputy Sheriff when I began my career with the Sheriff's Office. Ironically, he headed up the Sheriff's Warrant Office; the very same division that I was reassigned to after my assignment to the Sheriff's Communications Division.
Sadly, I never really got to know Captain Rohlen simply because of our different divisional assignments. But, I always heard nice things about him from our fellow deputies.

I met Dave shortly after moving to Cologne. He was a fun loving guy, a true friend and someone who I will always remember for his always trying to do something for anybody. Wayne A. Quast, 72, of Alexandria/Maple Plain and originally from Plymouth. Wayne was born on 7/19/39 and passed away 4/15/12. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Judy. Beatrice was born on June 4, 1911 in Carver, MN the daughter of Leo and Anna (Bristol) Scherkenbach. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Carver. In 1928 Beatrice was united in marriage to Edward H. Schepers at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Carver. Beatrice was a loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma. She loved her family very much. She enjoyed gardening, especially her flower garden.
She is preceded in death by her husband Edward Schepers Sr.; daughter Florence Eiden; son-in-law Wilfred Vos; father and mother Leo and Anna Scherkenbach; sisters Norma Bell, Marjorie Jones.

David "Hoot" Gibson, age 70, of Eden Prairie, died August 12, 2012 seven days after suffering a cardiac arrest at home. He was born in Mpls on January 26, 1942. He was preceded in death by his father, George W. Gibson and his mother, Estelle Buckley Gibson. David was raised in St. Louis Park, attended Most Holy Trinity Elementary School, Benilde High School and graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1961. He is survived by Judy, his wife of 46 years; his daughters, Christine Jensen of Lakeville and Laura Gibson of St. Paul; and his grandsons, Tanner and Logan Jensen of Lakeville. David loved his family most of all but his red truck, the Minnesota State Fair, street rods and rainbow sherbet were all close seconds. He loved taking good care of his girls and teaching his grandsons the finer points of making their way in the world. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. The family wishes to thank the Eden Prairie Police and Fire Departments and the paramedics of the Hennepin County Medical Center for their efforts. Mr. Crooks served as Chairman of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community for more than 20 successive years and was reelected for a new four-year term of office in January of 2012. Under his leadership, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community has grown and thrived. Known for his decisiveness, quick humor, fierce defense of tribal sovereignty and self-determination, Chairman Crooks always put his Community first.
Under his leadership, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community members have approved Community donations of more than $243 million to tribes and charitable organizations since 1996 and tribal loans of more than $450 million for economic development and community development. Chairman Crooks often was heard to say, “We feel we have an obligation to help others. It’s part of our culture as Dakota people. It is who we are.”
In recent weeks Chairman Crooks provided unprecedented interviews with local media outlets where he spoke publicly about Dakota history, culture, the Dakota Conflict of 1862 and its aftermath which was ever present on his mind this year, the 150-year remembrance of that tragic time in Dakota history.

Frank C. Buetel, a devoted husband, father, grand- father, and proud Army veteran passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in Boca Raton, FL. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joan (Johnson) Buetel, along with sons, Brian (Sonia), Brent, and Barry (Shannon). Additionally, he is also survived by eight grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Frank is also survived by his sister, Anita Head; nephew Robert (Darlene) Head. Frank was born on October 11, 1923 in Elcor, Minnesota and was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna Butala, his brother, Kenny, and nephew, Bobby (Head). After his honorable discharge following WWII, Frank graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota. His professional life was spent in radio and television sports broadcasting for over three decades in Minneapolis/St. Paul, highlighted by nearly twenty years as Sports Director at WTCN-TV (Ch. 11). James E. Anderson Sr. age 79 of Loretto passed away peacefully on Monday, November 12, 2012 in the presence of his family. He was born in 1933 to John and Eleanore (Olson) Anderson in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where he was the oldest of nine children.
Jim served in the US Air Force for ten years in the security forces and law enforcement profession, including a tour in Korea during the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge from the Air Force after a distinguished ten years of service. Upon leaving the military, he worked as a security officer for the Ford Motor Company before going on to serving over twenty years in law enforcement. Jim served at the University of Minnesota Police Department as a patrol officer and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department, where he worked in the jail, patrol division, and supervised the Water Patrol and Emergency Rescue Squad for many years. Jim concluded his distinguished law enforcement career in 1991, retiring from St. Bonifacius/Minnetrista Police Department.
He was united in marriage to Evelyn Ann Podominick on November 8, 1958 at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Keewatin, Minnesota. He and Evelyn have been members of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church for almost 40 years. Jim was a member of the Hamel American Legion Post #394. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, fishing, old westerns, and his latest passion: cars.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents John and Eleanore Anderson; brothers Grant, Darrell, Deo and sister Bette Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn; children Jacalyn (Brian) Nelson, Jean (Nathan) Breitung, James Jr. (Jodie) Anderson; grandchildren Andrea and Joshua Breitung; siblings Leo, Harris (Linda), John (Joyce), Rosie (Buddy) Gunderson, Dorothy (Norm) Vogt.

William B. (Bill) Gillespie, Age 76, of Minnetrista, died April 22, 2013 after a valiant fight with cancer. Bill was born in Minneapolis to Elliott and Ellengene Gillespie. Bill was a veteran of the US Army. Following his honorable discharge, he became a Hennepin County Deputy Sheriff. Along with his partner Bill Barry, Bill was chosen to start the first Hennepin County Crime Lab (CSI). Bill was selected to be a WCCO Good Neighbor on several occasions, but nowhere was he a good neighbor more than in his community. He was a Mason. Bill was a talented woodworker, fixer of bicycles and toys, mentor of children, friend to the schools and many local organizations. He was influential in the lives of many generations of neighborhood kids; he was even known to subsidize a prom dress, school trip or laptop in exchange for chores. One of his greatest gifts to his community was the creation of The Gillespie Center in Mound. When the senior citizens were in need of a venue, Bill’s donation made the Center a reality. Bill loved his family and dogs, the Lake, time spent at the cabin, crossword puzzles, “putzing”, cars and gadgets. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, sister and best friend, Gloria Gillespie Anderson and brother-in-law Richard Anderson. He is survived by his niece and her husband Carol and Jim O’Connor and great-nephew Adam O’Connor.
A memorial Service will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at St. Martin’s by the Lake Episcopal Church at 3:00, followed by reception to celebrate his life. Wear yellow! It was his favorite color.

Larry Hugh Peterson, age 71, of Mound and Mesa, Ariz., passed away on May 3, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Niram and Alice Peterson, and sister Joan Skalbeck. He is survived by his wife, Pamela; daughters Susan Lammers, Kerry Glassman and stepdaughter Kristine Kerkies; sister Sharon (Dick) Anderson and Linda (Tom) Bukowski; 10 grand- children; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, June 7, 2013, at Bethel United Methodist Church, located at 2116 Commerce Blvd. in Mound, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Michael J. Miles, born October 22, 1944; passed away June 23, 2013 at age 68. Mike Miles was the youngest of four boys, born in and grew up in Minnesota. Mike attended Hopkins High School and graduated from the University of Minnesota. Mike met Colleen, the love of his life, in the spring of 1971 while volunteering as an instructor for the American Red Cross' Water Safety Instructor Certification (WSI). Over the next 42 years they created many wonderful memories together as well as two sons and a daughter; David (Leslie), Emily (Josh) Davis, and Luke, which in turn led to grandkids Hailey and Kaitlyn, and a grandson on the way. James J. Wick, age 82, of New Prague, died suddenly Saturday, August 17, 2013 while on his morning walk. Jim was born March 19, 1931 in Luxemburg Township, Stearns County, MN to Henry F. & Mamie (Spaetgens) Wick. He grew up in Watkins, MN, graduating from Watkins High School. Jim served in the US Army in the Korean War and after discharge, married Arlene M. Neu on June 7, 1955 in St. Nicholas, MN. Jim was a deputy for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Dept. He enjoyed playing the concertina and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
Jim is survived by his wife, Arlene, children, David (& Jane) Wick and Diane (& Steve) Kehrli all of New Prague; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lorraine Neu of Cold Spring, and Betty (& Paul) Nelson of Atwater. Skip Loescher, age 71,veteran WCCO-TV and CNN News Correspondent, passed away at his home in Annapolis, Maryland on Friday, October 4, 2013. Loescher was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease four years ago. In addition to his love of family, Loescher loved dogs, hockey and baseball. He worked with the Humane Society and Chow Rescue and rooted for the Washington Capitals and the Washington Nationals. Loescher was a bright, hard working and caring man with a great sense of humor who will be missed by his family, friends and fans. He is survived by his wife, his mother-in-law Phyllis Beadle, his five children and their spouses and 13 grandchildren . . . Nick, Aiden, Sophia, Will, Emma, Nicole, Tyler, Sean, Christian, Julia, Alex, Kate and Ellie. A memorial service for Loescher will be held at a future date. James Andrew Graven, Age 87, of Longville, formerly Plymouth, MN, passed away on October 4, 2013 of natural causes. Jim is preceded in death by his wife Joan, his siblings and parents. Jim was born in Hutchinson, MN on Sept. 24, 1926. He graduated from Hutchinson HS and continued his education at Luther College, obtaining a teaching degree in Social Studies and Physical Education. He served in the United States Army from 1945-1946. Jim was married to Joan Dayton on June 11, 1950, and enjoyed 50 years of marriage. Jim worked as a teacher, coach and athletic director with the Wayzata Public School District for over 30 years. Throughout his life, he held the relationships developed with colleagues, athletes and friends in high regard. He enjoyed the cabin, fishing and family. Jim is survived by children, Christine (Kurt), Rebecca (Ed), James (Fran); grandchildren, Joanna, Jonathan (Julie), Sarah (Eric), Bethany (Kris) Elizabeth and Jack; great grandchildren, Becca, Brennan, Brady and Kellan and other family and friends. Purdy, Lorraine 92, of Mpls., passed away on Sept. 25, 2013. Born in Wells, MN on 5/24/21, preceded in death by parents George and Emma Purdy, dear friend Janice Johnson and her beloved feline companion, Lila Peka. Lorraine was loved and admired by all who knew her, especially her young students in the Wayzata School District, where she taught music for 38 years, retiring in 1984. At Widsten Elementary school, she established and directed the first Boys Choir. She happily tamed this group of sometimes unruly 4th, 5th, 6th grade boys, and in return they sang their hearts out for her. Music was her life and this young Boys Choir became her passion. The choir performed many concerts and was especially honored to be invited to sing at the state convention of the Minnesota Music Educators. The choir earned her the respect and admiration, not only from grateful parents and colleagues, but from the boys themselves, many of whom continued to keep in touch with her. She graduated from St. Olaf College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education. Lorraine was a member of the St. Olaf Choir. She told many interesting stories of the young Olaf Christianson taking over the directorship of this already well known choir from his famous father, F. Melius Christianson. She continued her education, earning a Master of Arts degree from the MacPhail College of Music. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Society of Career Woman Teachers, National Education Association, Music Educators National Conference, and Wayzata Association of Retired Educators. The Minnesota Music Educators Association, where she held several offices, honored her in 1985 for her "42 years of teaching the art of music to our youth." She was also honored as Teacher of the Year and WCCO's Good Neighbor. She was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir for 39 years. In her retirement she rekindled a love of her hobby of creating and collecting dollhouse miniatures. The hobby became a new passion as she joined forces with a good friend who had begun a miniature business. She began making exquisite tiny furniture and window treatments that found their way into collections all over the world. She pursued this new endeavor for 15 years, until a sudden stroke at age 80, ended this second career, but not her always positive spirit. Lorraine was proud of her Norwegian heritage and delighted friends at Christmas with gifts of lefse, krumkakke and rosettes. She was an incredible friend, always steadfast and loyal, and always reaching out to keep in touch. She was an amazing lady who loved life, music and friends without number. She will be greatly missed by special friends, Dureen and Rick Ruff family, Rita and Dave Docter family, Anita Milnes, cousins Sharon Hegna, Karen Hegna, Douglas (Lois) Purdy, many other friends and family and the loving staff of the Jones-Harrison Residence. A banker's son, Paul followed his father's career choice joining Northwestern National Bank, now Wells Fargo, retiring as Sr. Vice-President after many years as head of the Correspondent Bank Department. Retired President and Chairman of the Bank of Maple Plain following the death of his father. Past President of Minnesota Banker's Association from 1976-77. Chairman American Bankers Association. Correspondent Bank Committee. Elected Hennepin County Park Board Commissioner serving 8 years from 1966-74. Founding member and first chairman of Ridgeview Hospital Foundation starting the annual Golf Tournament Fund Raiser at Island View Country Club, Waconia. Served on the first Planning Commission, City of Maple Plain and helped initiate the Maple Plain Industrial Park. Past Commander of Paul Stinson American Legion Post 514 of Maple Plain, conducting the Memorial Day services for 16 years and also past President of the American Legion and Auxiliary Heart Foundation. A first generation American of Norwegian and Danish heritage, he was an international board member of the Rebild National Park Society, a US-DK Friendship organization which has celebrated the 4th of July since 1912 in Denmark, the largest such celebration outside the U.S.A. Myrna F. Renner, age 84, of Glenwood, MN, died March 10, 2014, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Myrna Faye Renner (Halverson) was born on December 15th, 1929 in Fosston, MN. With her parents, Claire and Bertha (Schippel) Halverson, she resided in Fosston, on a farm near Spooner, WI, Minneapolis, and ultimately Spring Park. In the back yard of her parents Minnetonka home, her sixty-four year marriage to Herman Joseph Renner III began. She became the "flower of his life." With Herman, her journey went to Island Park to Wayzata to Orono to Bruno then to Glenwood. Other than the farm in Spooner, she resided her entire life in Minnesota. A lifelong artist, Myrna was never without inspiration. Sketching and painting her entire life, Myrna always had a vision for her next work, be it a portrait or a landscape. Only one painting remains unfinished. Her personality may best be summed up by a message just received: "I did not know her well, yet the times I saw her and spoke with her, she imparted such a strong image: of a most gracious and quiet lady of large intellect and artistic talent - yet unimposing in the meekest of demeanors. May her eternal rest be your joy, and your memories be the stronger and the fonder as time begets its favor." Myrna is survived by husband Herman J. Renner III; brother: Kurt Halverson; sons: Ronald D. Renner (Diane) and Douglas B. Renner (Vinca); daughters: Carolyn S. Stevenson and Suzanne G. Wolfgram. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
