RAILROAD MAGNATE JAMES J. HILL
James J. Hill was the Empire Builder who started with nothing but a vision of the future. It was the vision that made him special and different from others involved in business. He saw what he was working toward and used his business strategies to always plan for the future. Unlike other railroad builders such as Cornelius Vanderbilt who built their railroads around a population, Hill built a population around his railroad. This technique was unsuccessful for others but Hill's business skill, experience, and planning made his railroad progress rapidly. The land he built on was considered a wasteland, unsuitable for population. His railroads went from the Great Lakes to the Puget Sound and from Canada to the South.

IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS !
Delta Dick,
Trooper Keith Simonette came into my office today to tell me that you were no longer "on the air". I was disappointed to hear of this as you have been a great supporter of the Minnesota State Patrol and law enforcement in general. I really do think you cared greatly about the safety of your listeners. You assisted us in educating the public through methods other then arrests and citations. It is my hope that you will find a comfortable and rewarding career elsewhere and that you will remain a loyal friend to us and those in your community who support you. Thank you!
L. Hodapp, Commander, District 2200: The Minnesota State Patrol
I certainly want to thank Trooper Keith Simmonet of the Minnesota State Patrol for stopping by the radio station during my show on Law Enforcement Friday, August 15, 2003. He gave us several items that I will be giving away during my radio shows so please stay tuned. Also along with Trooper Simmonet were two deputies from the Scott County Sheriff's Department; deputies Dennis Tietz and Nick Adler. I've met lots of law enforcement officers during my active law enforcement career; the three that 'stopped in' to my radio show yesterday were three of the finest!! And, of course, let's not forget Larry Novotny who also was along.
Last Friday, August 22, 2003, Scott County Deputies Dennis Tietz and Duane Jirik stopped by the 'Delta Dick' Radio Show and dropped off Scott County Sheriff's Department coffee mugs to be given away during my radio shows. As everyone knows, I met Deputy Tietz the week before, and know Deputy Jirik through the 'SMART SHOPPER' Program heard every Saturday. Again, both deputies are model examples of what law enforcement officers are all about.
"Dick: Thanks for your public service; you do so much and probably don't get recognized for any of it. But, you are a wonderful asset for Carver County and Hamburg and for your radio listening community; you're just a great guy. Thanks so much."
"My prayer would be more Dick Odoms would rise up and get involved in their lives, in their communities and in our way of life! Our future needs courageous leaders who are not afraid to “challenge” the process and our leaders. America needs our involvement more than ever because of the polarizations that is taking place at all levels of government and our lives. I have tried to think of any part of my life where government in NOT involved in some way, shape or form. While I believe we cannot live without “the people” looking out for each other, I believe we have created a monster that has an appetite we cannot sustain. Something has to give……"
"Wishing you Life’s Best today and everyday!!"

Sheriff of Carver County, Minnesota

On this edition of 'DELTA ON DEMAND', I talk with Sergeant Dale Schoenbauer of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office about how they are implementing the D.A.R.E. Program in schools throughout Hennepin County.
For those of you who may not know what the D.A.R.E. Program is, the program uses specially trained D.A.R.E. Law Enforcement Officers that are assigned to school classroom 'beats'.
The D.A.R.E. curriculum is designed to be taught by Police Officers whose training and experience give them the background needed to answer the sophisticated questions often posed by young students about drugs and crime. Prior to entering the D.A.R.E. Program, officers undergo 80 hours of special training in areas such as child development, classroom management, teaching techniques, and communication skills. 40 hours of additional training are provided to D.A.R.E. instructors to prepare them to teach the high school curriculum.

MARK BRAINARD; DEDICATED GARDENER HOBBYIST
On my hour long DELTA DICK OLDE TYME MUSIC INTERNET SHOW heard four times a week on www.247polkaheaven.com, I always am striving to find something, or somebody, that is new, different and exciting. Enter my good friend and co-worker, Mark Brainard.
Mark, who I've know for about four years, is originally from Iowa. Presently, he and his bride, Terry, live in Bloomington, Minnesota, but Mark travels every week during the summer to his Iowa hometown where he grew up, to enjoy his favorite pastime: Gardening.
For the past four summers, Mark has shared his intimate details of how he prepares his garden in the spring for planting, how he carefully selects which seeds to plant and where to plant them. Then, as his efforts begin to emerge from the rich brown earth and begin "shoosting up towards the sky", (sounds like Green Acres revisited, doesn't it?) Mark provides me with updated, unsolicited information about how 'the crops' are doing.
It occurred to me that hearing Mark enthusiastically talk about his favorite hobby, would be of interest to the listeners of my DELTA DICK OLDE TYME MUSIC INTERNET SHOW. So, I recorded an interview with Mark and inserted that interview between Parts One and Two of one of my recent Internet shows (2010 - 31).
